Notes: State veterinarian received notice from USDA that a horse destined to RI may have been exposed to neuropathogenic EHV-1 as part of a cohort that was imported from Europe after one horse in that cohort tested positive. The state veterinarian notified the horse/stable owner. The stable practices biosecurity for new horses and had isolated this horse to a separate barn on the property. That barn was placed under quarantine after the attending veterinarian reported non-neuropathogenic EHV-1 was recovered on a nasopharyngeal swab. There was a very low viral load and the horse has not exhibited any signs of disease since arrival on 4/4/21. ;

Notes: A horse has tested positive for Equine Herpesvirus-1. The horse has no known links to either of the previous Florida cases. The horse is being treated at a hospital facility but has not developed neurologic signs. All exposed horses at the Winter Equestrian Festival (Tent 17) have been quarantined. This horse was isolated as soon as it was observed to be febrile. Increased biosecurity was instituted at Tent 17 immediately after the positive test results were received on April 2nd 2021. Notes: The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is posting an Order of Special Quarantine at an equine boarding facility for show horses in Chester County, PA due to the detection of EHV-1 in multiple febrile horses on the premises. Investigation is ongoing, but due to a possible connection to an EHM case NOT located at this premises, the Department is issuing an official quarantine and is working with the very proactive barn management and private practitioners to monitor the health of the horses on the premises.
