Comments: As of Dec 11, 2025 a single case of neurologic EHV-1 has been confirmed within the state of Florida. At this point in time, no other confirmed or suspect cases have been identified. The affected horse, a Thoroughbred racehorse originating from Tampa Bay Downs, is currently undergoing treatment in an isolation facility. The index case affected barn and epidemiological linked barn at Tampa Bay Downs have been quarantined and the remainder of the facility is under increased disease surveillance at the direction of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The affected horse had been on-site at Tampa Bay Downs since late October, with no known connections to the ongoing U.S. EHM outbreak in Western performance horses.;

Comments: Since the last situation report (11/26/2025), there has been one (1) new confirmed positive equine premises identified in Arizona (Maricopa County - new affected county). All confirmed cases in the 2025 outbreak have been vesicular stomatitis New Jersey virus (VSNJV) serotype. Updates are as follows: Arizona Maricopa County (New Affected County) – On December 9, the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa, detected VSVNJ by PCR on swab samples from a lesioned wild horse from the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group located in the Tonto National Forest. The Arizona Department of Agriculture has issued an Administrative Order temporarily restricting movement of domestic livestock, including horses, into or out of the affected Lower Salt River area on public land. Since the last situation report (11/26/2025), the 1 affected premises in Gila County has been released from quarantine. Premises that have diagnostic laboratory confirmation of VSV are categorized as confirmed positive premises. Once a county is confirmed as VSV-positive, new equine premises presenting with clinical signs of VSV in that county are not required to be tested for confirmation of the disease, but the premises will be quarantined and classified as a presumptive positive premises. Premises may also be classified as presumptive positive if clinical animals on the premises fail to meet confirmed case definition, but there is diagnostic laboratory evidence of recent VSV infection. Confirmed and presumptive positive premises are quarantined for at least 14 days from the onset of lesions in the last affected animal on the premises.;

Breed: Standardbred; Clinical Signs: Two standardbreds, one who hasn't raced since June 2025 and another who last raced 11 days ago developed a high fever and submandibular lymph node swelling. Both tested positive for S. equi by PCR. A pony in the same shedrow with a draining abscess also tested positive for S. equi.; Confirmation Date: 12/10/2025; 

Comments: The infected horses are isolated and their care is being supervised by attending veterinarians. Trainers in the affected part of the barn have voluntarily withdrawn their horses from racing and are monitoring horses for fevers and the development of clinical signs of Strangles. Trainers at the facility are working with their veterinarians to institute biosecurity protocols.;

Comments: To date 30 cases have been confirmed by the Texas Animal Health Commission with the last case confirmed Nov. 27, 2025. Five of the submitted cases died or were euthanized. Cases have been identified in the following counties: Montgomery, Lee, McLennan, Ellis, Wise, Jefferson, Grimes, Erath, Harris, Randall, Parker, Hood, Fort Bend, Bell and Wharton.;
