Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed another case of strangles in a horse from Washtenaw County. The horse, a 15-year-old thoroughbred gelding, was experiencing mild, intermittent nasal discharge for an unknown duration. The horse had not been vaccinated for strangles and is currently alive and under the care of a veterinarian. No quarantines were issued. Two other horses at the farm this year have been confirmed with strangles. This new case brings the total number of reported cases of strangles in Michigan in 2018 to 15.
