Equine Infectious Anemia

The Colorado State Veterinarians office has updated information on the second case of Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) discovered in September 2018. This second case was confirmed on September 1st, at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory. The horse was in strict isolation during testing and was euthanized once the disease was confirmed. The small number of horses exposed to the EIA positive horse have been located and are quarantined or under Hold Orders with movement restrictions. This second case is unrelated to the initial EIA case detected in Colorado in August. These are two separate EIA incidents with no common movement, locations or horse use between the two cases.
