Equine Infectious Anemia

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has confirmed a positive Equine Infectious Anemia test on a racing Quarter Horse in Rutherford County, Tennessee which was reported on January 10^th,2018. One of the staff veterinarians from the Department of Agriculture tested all of the horses on the farm. Three other quarter horses on the farm tested positive for EIA at Kord Lab on Monday, a second AGID test was ran Tuesday. The 3 horses tested at Kord Lab were confirmed positive at NVSL. All four positive EIA horses have been euthanized. Iatrogenic transmission is suspected. The other six horses on the farm tested negative and were quarantined. They will be retested in March.
