Bannock County, ID
Alert ID: 1218
April 04, 2019

Idaho State Department of Agriculture

Number Affected: 1;
Age: 13; Gender: Mare; Breed: Quarter Horse (QH); Onset of Clinical Signs: 3/26/2019;
Clinical Signs: abortion; Confirmation Date: 4/4/2019; Horse Status: Affected And Alive; Vaccination Status: Vaccinated;
Notes: A mare at a private equine training facility in Bannock County aborted a pregnancy on March 26, 2019. On April 4, 2019 lab results confirmed the abortion was caused by EHV-1 infection, despite the mare being current on her rhino vaccinations. (Mare had received 5m & 7m boosters). The mare had done no significant traveling in the last six months but had been in direct contact with two other horses at her home facility. No respiratory or neurological symptoms have been observed in any of the three horses. There is no evidence to suggest this case is in any way connected to the EHV-positive horse diagnosed March 28 week in Ada County, Idaho. ;
