The New Mexico Livestock Board and the New Mexico Racing Commission are working with officials at Sunland Park Racetrack in southern New Mexico following confirmation of the neurotropic form of EHV-1 in five horses at the track. The first confirmation was made Thursday. By order of the New Mexico Livestock Board, the quarantine perimeter includes Sunland Park Racetrack, as well as local horse-training centers Frontera, Jovi, and Lazy S. Exposed barns have been identified, and an isolation barn to treat symptomatic horses has been established. Additional biosecurity measures are being taken. In addition to state government’s regulatory measures, Sunland Park is suspending racing during the quarantine period.
