Eastern Equine Encephalitis

On May 23, a new case of EEE was confirmed in Polk County, Florida. The horse was a 4 year old, unvaccinated Paint gelding with no travel history in the past 6 months. Clinical signs began May 10th. The horse was euthanized for humane reasons the following day. This is the second confirmed case in Polk County and the third confirmed positive in Florida since the beginning of the year.
