Confirmed Case(s) - Official Quarantine

New York Department of Agriculture and Markets

Number Confirmed: 1;
Number Exposed: 35;
Facility Type: Farm;
Notes: Stone Silo Farm of Wallkill, NY, has been under official state quarantine by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Division of Animal Industry, due to a confirmed case of strangles since April 16, 2021. The quarantine does not permit any horses to come on to or leave the premises for any reason except emergency medical treatment, which requires immediate notification and approval by the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, Division of Animal Industry. It was recently discovered that numerous horses have moved out of state despite being quarantined and without permission. Additionally, some horses originally quarantined are unaccounted for at this time. The disease status of the remaining, exposed horses on the premises is currently unknown. The farm will remain under quarantine with no movement on or off the farm until the remaining horses are confirmed to be free of the infection. For more information about Strangles go to the factsheet.
