Comments: Clemson Livestock Poultry Health received notification of laboratory confirmation from NVSL of 2 cases of EIA in South Carolina. A 3-year-old QH Gelding and a 3-year-old QH Filly both tested positive in Barnwell County. Thus far, all the positive cases have been associated with Bush Track Quarter Horse racing. All positive horses have been euthanized. Clemson LPH and SC USDA veterinarians are actively investigating any other cases that might exist. In these cases, it appears the disease has spread from sharing needles between horses. EIA Totals for 2022: 5 Berkeley County – 1, Barnwell County – 4. For additional information, go to EIA Factsheet.
