Los Angeles County, CA
Alert ID: 376
November 29, 2016
A febrile horse from one of the quarantined barns in the Los Angeles Equestrian Center was moved to isolation last Wednesday evening, November 23, 2016. Initial nasal swab was negative on diagnostic testing at CAHFS laboratory and the horse was retested on November 26th and found to be PCR positive for EHV-1 on nasal swab. Seven (7) horses in isolation were moved to home stalls today based on repeated negative EHV-1 testing. Quarantined isolation is now home to two (2) horses and one of the two has qualified with negative EHV-1 testing to be moved to home stall tomorrow. Enhanced biosecurity measures are in place in all barns under quarantine and all horses’ temperatures continue to be monitored twice daily. CDFA staff continue to provide oversight in working closely with management, trainers and owners at LAEC. The updates on this EHV-1 incident will continue on a 48 hour basis. The quarantine release date will be evaluated based on additional test results from the recent positive horse in isolation at LAEC.
