Eastern Equine Encephalitis

July 6, 2015-A new case in Gadsden County has been confirmed with EEE. The horse, a 1 year old Quarter horse filly had not been off the property since birth. The owner vaccinated the filly 6 months prior but did not do an initial booster. Clinical signs began June 21th and progressed until the horse was euthanized on June 27th. The case was confirmed positive by the Florida Department of Agriculture on July 3rd. This is the first confirmed case in Gadsden County and the ninth positive in Florida since the beginning of the year.
