West Nile Virus

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protectin has confirmed West Nile Virus in a unvaccinated 11-year-old Standardbred mare in Green Lake County. The mare was somewhat “off” beginning on 11/2/2017. Her symptoms worsened dramatically and a veterinarian was called on 11/9/2017. At that time, the mare showed proprioceptive deficits, ataxia, and muscle fasciculations. She was tested for WNV (IgM) and treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. She is recovering and acting normal at this time.
