Strangles

An attending veterinarian has confirmed an outbreak of Strangles in Bedford County, Virigina. 8 horses have been reported as affected with 12 horse in total under quarantine. The index horse showed an onset of symptoms on December 21st, 2017 including cough, nasal discharge, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. There have been no further horses with clinical signs other than the original 8 that showed signs within the first 7 days. All the affected horses have since recovered and have been free of any clinical signs for the last 3 weeks. The quarantine has been released.
