Strangles

The Rhode Island State Veterinarian has reported that Strangles was confirmed in a single horse at a stable in Washington County, RI. The attending veterinarian suspected strangles based on the clinical signs and strangles was laboratory confirmed by PCR testing. This horse was recently purchased at a sale. No other horses at the farm are affected. An official order of quarantine will be issued for the farm today.
